Trade in Eurasia

The development and progress of the Long distance trade in Eurasia but and also in many countries have been recorded as a major achievement. Eurasia, a union of Asia and Europe into a single large landmass to form a continent, ranks her long distance trade among the best performed activities during this era. This is owing to the fact that most parts of the world particularly Eurasia started to produce food both for their own domestic consumption as well as selling the surplus.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Trade in Eurasia specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More The people of Eurasia also began to adopt other forms of interactions whereby they encountered a more intense contact with one another over longer distances and over wider areas during trade. Comparatively, the long distance in Eurasia developed a few miles ahead of the long distance in the Sub Sahara. This paper therefore presents a discussion giving an accou nt of the faster rate of development of the trade in the Eurasia then in the Sub Sahara. To begin with, Globalization became an eye opener to the long distance trade in Eurasia. Among the benefits associated with globalization was the break down of the traditional boundaries that had initially been created. The breakdown of such boundaries was a major breakthrough in the period of increasing developments in the financial trends across the globe particularly in Eurasia. Most interestingly, globalization as a major phenomenon was realized through the long distance trade which had its roots in Eurasia. The existence of the â€Å"silk roads† played a major role in linking most parts of Eurasia and North Africa. The link represented a great advance in the progress of the long distance trade in Eurasia compared to the Sub Sahara. In addition to the globalization, there were also the noble contributions received from the Classical Empires. The empires included among others Han, Part hian, Kushan and Roman whose contribution restored order as well as political stability to the territories. Among the contributions include the massive construction of elaborate transport facilities in the region. The Classical empires also expanded their empires hence bringing them to a closer proximity with each other. The restoration of stability and order in the territory provided a favorable environment for the growth of the long distance trade in Eurasia as compared to Sub Sahara whose stability was under compromise. Furthermore, the Silk roads also laid a strong foundation to the development of the long distance trade in Eurasia. These roads (Silk roads), were referred to as silk roads due to the fact that the high quality silk obtained from China become one of the major commodities that the traders exchanged along these roads.Advertising Looking for essay on history? The Silk roads also proved advantageous to the trade since it avoided the â€Å"deadly desert† of Taklamakan as it passed into the oasis towns which existed along the outskirts. Through the Silk roads, the Classical Empires experienced a great reduction in the cost of the long distance trade. The merchants started the establishment of extensive trade networks between Eurasia and northern parts of Africa. The success in the establishment of the routes linking Eurasia and other long distance traders made it possible for a faster progress of the trade in Eurasia compared to Sub Sahara. Owing to the political stability as well as the adequate infrastructure development such as routes that provided links between Eurasia and the other long distance traders, a fertile ground for the spread of some g reatest world religions came afore. These included Buddhism, Christianity and Islam. Many people also settled in Eurasia due to food supply. The food supply was as a result of great variety of agricultural products from the domesticated animals. With the great accumulation of wealth from the trade, Eurasia acquired great ability to acquire great dominance over the world. However, as the many political, social and economic activities continue to thrive in many parts of the world, the tallest order arises when these countries have to maintain their status quo. As it has been practically witnessed in the largest percentage of the developing and the developed countries, the road to socio economic and political stability occurs gradually. The development to stability is a sigmoid growth where they grow to the peak of power after which the development rate increases at a diminishing rate and finally fall towards the starting point. The United States of America has been considered to be at the fore front of development aspects. To date, the United States holds the record as the Worlds Superpower. The United States experiences economic, social and political prowess. Conclusions made from reliable premises documents that the United States will remain at the top of the ladder till the year 2030 when another nation may pose a reasonable threat of attempt to surpass her.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Trade in Eurasia specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More The researchers have faced a wider spectrum of reactions or critiques some of which have subjected the possibility of the US remaining a superpower to a rigor of doubt. Most interestingly, the question about the US being surpassed by another nation such as China in the future calls for a deeper understanding of what it takes to be a superpower. The United States of America, as a superpower, does not only experience the strongest political and military vi ctories over the entire world, but the cultural pyramids, economic as well as the scientific control also lies in the hands of the US. The United States holds the league in the formulation of new and original consumer brands for a number of commodities all over the world. The production of such brands occur in companies including McDonalds, Coca cola, Citigroup, Nike, Xerox, Microsoft, Google among other multinational companies owing their possession to the US. In comparison, Japan and Europe have made a few brands in a few selected countries, which is still far form the US capacity in the industrial production. Furthermore, when one considers the number and the usage of the US brand logos in the developing nations, it proves beyond any reasonable doubt that the US economic and cultural dominance has gained more popularity by the same measure. The United States maintains her victory over the world in the education sector. It is documented from adequate research that the US owns seve nteen of the best twenty universities in the world. These are the greatest learning institutions where all the top students in the world aspire to belong as students. Top students from India, Europe as well as Japan make applications for the US universities such as Stanford, Harvard and Cambridge hence; China may not match the US in the economy of knowledge. Besides the possession of these state of the heart institutions, the US has also invested heavily in scientific research hence plays a pivotal role in the world of innovations from the laboratory to the market place. To surpass this state, China has to advance further her technology to lead inventions as well as corporations which are adaptable to the world’s marketplace. As a wrap up therefore, it is evident that the US economy, politics and the social structure and functions such as security are miles beyond that of the entire world. The US has a control of the entire world’s economic power. Despite the tireless attempts made by other countries (commonly referred to as the â€Å"Barbarians†) such as China to surpass, the US will remain at the peak for a period estimated to till 2030.Advertising Looking for essay on history? Environmental Protection and Conservation Research Paper Example

Environmental Protection and Conservation Research Paper Example Environmental Protection and Conservation Paper Environmental Protection and Conservation Paper Environmental Protection and Conservation of the Ecosystem We, the human beings, are living in a polluted environment, and It Is getting worse day by day. There is nothing else to blame but ourselves. We are suffering from our own negligence. God has given us everything we need but all we do Is to ruin HIS beautiful creation. If we do not want to see the future to suffer, It Is not yet too late to act. By Just doing the simple ways, we can help protect the environment. Every one of us has a responsibility. God has given us free will to do whatever we want, but It does not mean that we forget about our environment. The blue sky, the sun shining, and the vehicles we ride on every day everything we encounter Is part of our environment. We think of the environment as the trees, sky, (Yean, and everything natural. When in fact, everything we see around us is environment. We may not realize it yet, but the environment is screaming for our help. There are many things we can do to prevent the destruction of our nature. Just think of the animals, the plants, and the humans what will happen to them if we just sit down and do nothing? If all of us participate in preserving our environment, our future will be better. Imagine that there will be no waste around us, and sickness due to environmental issues; how wonderful, isnt it? If this eventually happens, all of us will be benefited. On the other hand, there are plenty of environmental organizations our country has implemented. Our government is systematic on having this laws and organizations showing that our country is aware on environmental issues. But, it does not stop there. We cannot Just give the responsibility to the government. As a civilized society, all of us have concern. We can contribute as a community. Indeed, there are no considerations on who to participate. Whether you are rich or poor, you can make a difference. In result, we are not only helping the environment but also the people around us. Our environment provides us material things we need; like papers from trees, medicines from plants, and many more. Therefore, we must return something more as the environment has given us. Though, the question Is: how can we protect the environment? This Is a question which Is easy to say but seems Like hard for us to do. We all want to protect our environment, but we are too busy or too lazy to do so. One of the simplest ways Is to throw your litters at the right place. You can also separate them from biodegradable to non-beleaguered, so that others can use It as a recycled material as well. By doing this, you are contributing to the environment. However, we can also conserve water by saving it. According to research, water will be scarce in 2025. So, if we are having bath or washing dishes, let us make sure that the amount of water will be enough for us to use and not wasting it. We do not want to lose water in early years. Our generation has multiple technologies at present. Indeed, all human beings are using technology every day. Television, cellophane, oven, refrigerator, computers all f these are examples of technology. Hence, it is important to unplug or turn off these appliances if necessary. As a result, we are conserving energy and making ourselves free from radiation. Additionally, expose ourselves from recycling. Recycling has a big impact on the environment. If there is a material or clothes we do not use anymore, we may recycle and do creative things for it. Otherwise, we may give or donate it to persons who need or lack of those things. Good things happen for people who give and support. More importantly, coordinate with the community, neighbors, or families in planting Reese. Trees have many contributions on our lives. We may want to replace the trees that have been used for our needs. By planting trees, not only we, the human beings will be benefited, but also the animals in our environment. There are many ways in protecting and conserving our environment. Therefore, we must encourage and reach out to other people. As a result, their perspective and point of views will be changed. Simple and little things mean a lot. Moreover, all of us can make a difference. The more we are concerned and environmentally conscious, the more peaceful mind and happier lives well have.

Economics of Asia Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words - 1

Economics of Asia - Essay Example As the authors point out, the reformation process was spurred by popular demands for change leading to a more ‘capitalist’ form of economy with Chinese attributes. This form of capitalism was advocated by the higher Chinese elites who did not want to lose but perhaps wanted to expand their shares in the wealth of the country. It is explained that the move towards capitalism was driven more by greed although it monetarily benefitted the elites far more than before. The socialist economic policies of Mao’s era were characterized by centralized decision making, no private ownership of the means of production, large industries, and political control over the people through parties. Dissatisfaction with the ongoing political, social, and economic trends, the people demonstrated their anger and frustration as their social and economic life declined. Mao’s era of government played a vital role in paving the way for socialist reformation. The period saw increased production despite several large unrests in the country. Production output plunged dramatically although the agricultural relatively lagged behind in terms of its pace of develo pment. Despite growth in production outputs and the overall economy, China still faced a lot of economic problems by the end of Mao’s era. Since the economic decision making was extremely centralized, the market could not efficiently and productively respond to the needs and wants of the people. While some goods were produced in large quantities, others were under-produced. As Hart-Landberg argues, while China has experienced rapid and a remarkably high growth rate while maintaining its growth, its success cannot be considered in isolation with the wider aspects of its economic transformation process (35). While many countries may view the Chinese economic policies as a model for successful economic growth, the economic strategy of China should not be accounted

Investigate the megachurch called Toronto Blessing and the phenomenon Essay

Investigate the megachurch called Toronto Blessing and the phenomenon of holy laughter - Essay Example This paper will investigate the Toronto Blessing church while looking at its origin, its connection to traditional charismatic churches, beliefs, worship service, explanation of the unusual phenomenon on blessing, other people’s views, and, finally, my views on the movement. The Toronto Blessing movement started close to Pearson Airport in Toronto at the Airport Vineyard Christian fellowship. Leaders Carol and John Arnott established the Toronto Airport Vineyard church approximately in 1988. The religious organization met in a number of rented areas all over Toronto until the beginning periods of 1990 when the church located a more long term residence close to the Pearson Airport in Toronto. A Vineyard pastor, Randy Clark, from Missouri, was requested by John Arnott to be in charge of the local church revival, on the 20th day of January, in 1994 (Roberts 5). Since that day, conventions have been hosted every week for six days, attracting people numbering 800 to 1000. This led to the formation of the Toronto Blessing movement. The Toronto Blessing movement may be connected to traditional charismatic churches. ... This movement engage in laying of hands and look for the power of the Holy Spirit. Also, the Toronto Blessing movement is recognized by its ecstatic worship, as well as shaking, laughter, crying, and what is referred to as resting or falling in the Spirit (Roberts 32). These are similar manifestations that were witnessed in the traditional charismatic churches. The Toronto Blessing church has its own set of beliefs. The Toronto Blessing church largely concentrates on activities that relate to praise and worship. The believers of the movement can sing, have fun, sing, and dance to the Lord. The church believes in a system of open worship that gives the chance to the revelation of the Holy Spirit in its church services. The manifestation of the Holy Spirit may be revealed in a number of ways, for example, through a miracle, a message passed through speaking in tongues, laying on of hands, healing, or prophesy (Roberts 36). Members of the Toronto Blessing church explicitly state or impl y that the manifestation of these phenomenons is proof of revival. Finally, the movement holds the belief that Christians should pray for the Spirit to be received. The Toronto Blessing church exhibits a specified design in its worship service. The musical style utilized in the church service is characteristically a popular style. The music is performed using a number of musical instruments. In addition, the church service incorporates three foremost elements of worship. They comprise praise and worship, giving, and preaching. The Toronto Blessing church members presume that this form of worship prepares individuals to exit the worship experience and carry the

Difference Between Love And Sex Theology Religion Essay

Difference Between Love And Sex Theology Religion Essay Peter Bertocci has explained the human experience of sex and explains the value of sex as part of the meaning of life. Regarding sex an end in itself Peter argues that more profound satisfaction is felt when the normal experience of sex lust is not primarily an end in itself but a symbolic expression of other values. Bertocci further explains the challenge in love which he explains through his progression of love in which marriage and its values are highlighted as an essentiality to protect sex and love. He argues that sex, love, marriage, family, and social responsibility are the key factors that bring stability in the society and nourish the values morality. He considers love as a an essential element to live, otherwise it will be a mere existence not living joyously. He argues for the place of marriage in society and emphasizes on the self regeneration of the partners through this novel relationship. In my opinion he really draws on personal experience and has a closed minded view. I disagree and will give reasons and arguments in my essay as to why I think that Bertocci narrates a story of an ideal situation. Difference between Love and Sex: Psychoanalysis asserts that love and sex can never be of same origin and character due to differences of decisive nature. Love and sex must be analyzed in their own purview and in their purest forms. Sex is related to biology related to some organism; love gives an emotional touch and a sign of individuals thoughts. Sex is used to eliminate the tense attitude; love can be used as an escape goat from ones own failure. Sex satisfies a person physically; love gives happiness. Sex has a broader meaning; special meaning is shown through love. Natures call can be answered through sex; culture is satisfied through love. Sex is known to millions; millions have not even heard of romance or love. Sex is arbitrary; love is always directed to someone. Sex gives relaxation; love grooms the personality. The taste and pleasure of sex cannot be called later while love can be recalled anytime even in thoughts if the lover is not physically present. Sex is an act; love is spiritual. Sex eagerness is f or a short time whereas love is continuous warmth. (Reik, New York: Grove Press.  1945)[1]. Can Love and Lust be combined? (Reik, p. 19), observes that if love and sex are combined, it is very difficult to assess that which has the most part or share, to be precise, during a sexual intercourse. I believe that it is purely dependant on our perception. It is our own mind and body that drives us to a particular point where we need to think that what should be combined and what should be separated. I believe that there are ways in which sex without love can be as joyous, fruitful and soothing as sex with love. So, the question as to the combination of lust and love, one cannot say that which is more dominating but one can say is that crude form of sex is generated after divorcing love from sex. Sex with Love: What Bertocci has explained about love is that through sex with love one gives in everything but Rollo May s  Love and Will  (New York: Dell Publishing Co.. 1969), says that one will always hold something back until the act is personal, and if we use this word personal instead of love, the context of sex is broadened and sex can be joyful even the partners are not lovers. May further argues that holding off something does not mean that sex will not be a pure sex. According to May (p. 311), relationship and intimacy are much more important factors than merely having sex with a person because of the impersonal society and it is unknown that the act of sex will satisfy the required needs of relationship and intimacy. But what one can say according to Mays stance that through love one is absorbed in another and isolation can be overcome through this. The irony of love is that one is at the same time losing oneself and absorbing the other in him. Mays writings show a lack of understan ding of how gratification can be achieved through sex without love. Analysis of Sex with Love: Like May many people in this world are unaware of the possibility of sex being a loving act even without being lovers to each other. As I mentioned earlier this is a traditional or closed mind view that sex without love is not as fruitful as sex with love. I reiterate my view that Sex without love allows the partners to have a more relaxing feeling. Contrasting to what bertocci, I would say that sex with love leading to a more chaining relationship which leads to taking each others pain, then placing your life in the basket of marriage which will land your life in the rearing of children. Bertocci further asks you to nourish the society through all these preceding acts of yours. Sadly, a true and a happy relationship of sex have been destroyed by the clogging views of writers such as May and Bertocci. Sex should be as free and motivating as a clear sky is available to the bird that goes high in strength and spirits to have a broader overview of the intricacies of this world. This fee ling takes me higher and regenerates the true spirit of life and makes me see what the believers of sex with love cannot see or visualize in their thoughts. Sex without Love: (Russell Vannoy, Buffalo: Prometheus, 1980) gives some of the examples from the papers of his students. I would like to mention a few; pleasuring my lover leaves me pleasure less as the mind is devoted to his satisfaction, thus disturbing the whole concept of sex. The deeper you get involve in other person and as the other is absorbed in you, the more a person is ceased to be a separate person, which is absolutely not encouraging and equally not satisfactory. The lovers gets cocksure and sometimes the girl does not feel horny, then if the lover pushes her and she refuses, is she getting selfish. I would say no because this might not have been the case with a stranger whom she did not love, a stranger cannot push you for something and one is at liberty to say no to stranger without worrying to dishearten him. Once a lover knows what you are capable of in the bed, he wants repetition whereas a new person will be attracted to the same demonstration. Self-sacrifice is common among lovers whereas no such sacrifice is required to be done during sex without non-lovers. (Casler, New York: Behavioural Publications, 1973), has argued that love is needed to satisfy the needs of personal insecurity. These needs are dictated to by the societal pressure and those without it are not considered an active part of this so called moral society. Caslers view shows that people getting loved or love someone are just trying to gain self-worth. With this attitude in mind the sex is most unfulfilling. Considering the older ages when women were not respected, how can males give respect to them in the shape of love? This has aroused women to write the most criticism on love. (Robert Solomon, Buffalo,  NY: Prometheus Books, 1976), writes that sexual encounters with strangers are the most satisfying ass there is fear, guilt and anticipation. Conversely sex with those we know and love is much less satisfying as the habits and reactions are known to each other which, nullifies the uniqueness among the partners. Moralists paints the picture of sex with a non-lover as crude and animalistic. They still have their view of having successful sex with only the ones you love and the other sex is never pure. Giving justification to love is just as hypocrite as actually doing hypocrisy during crude sex in love; one says that if I dont love her I am exploiting her, so he loves to make his sex justified is just another form of hypocrisy. The advocates of sex with love has not allowed the people to think to stop being selfishly loving others to justify the societys value system. Once this selfish behavior is outsmarted, only then a true loving act of sex could emerge without romantically being involved in the other partner. Many husbands perform crude sex and wives are left unfulfilled. The reason is that wives want a sensuous sex while men want manly, lusty sex which cannot be achieved as they get involved in each other and cannot push for the demands and now when married cannot change husbands. This situation leaves both thirsty for real experience in sex. Social Approval: Societys approval is considered necessary and the sex must be given the assent of the pure spirit of love. Otherwise the sex would animalistic and dirty. If this option is considered then, even in sex with love the partners remain unfulfilled and they are not spontaneous and guilt free. I believe that societys concept must not be involved in sex relationships, as it is only to strengthen the institution of marriage. Marriage will certainly make the experience of sex laborious although the society gives the assent of piety but will ultimately make the people who make the society unfulfilled with regards to their sexual satisfaction. Analysis of Sex without Love: I strongly believe that sex without love is much more fruitful and joyous than the sex with love. The reality is still that sex opens the doors for the people to happiness and gratification but when love comes and knocks the door and hugs sex, it suddenly engulfs sex and convinces to move to the next stage of sex with love. I reject this and say that this encompassing is just like going into a war which one choose for its own self without any reason. Conclusion The sex without love is the superior, mature and natural attitude which one must follow. The societys regeneration is indeed laid in the foundations of liberty and freedom of choice which can only be exercised when one has no restriction to follow a particular schedule or guidelines while having sex. I strongly believe in having sex without love for which I have argued in my paper after taking a view of the various aspects of what people want and what people face after taking a wrong decision of landing at a lovers corner.

Essay on Fate in Weatherhead’s The Will of God -- Will of God

Understanding Fate in Weatherhead’s The Will of God  Ã‚   As I continued to chat with my pastor that day, I really sensed the hurt in his eyes – the anger that comes from an unsolvable injustice, the tiredness of a problem. â€Å"What’s wrong?† I finally asked, â€Å"Having a bad day?†Ã‚   Sensing that I was truly concerned, he let the truth be told.   â€Å"I talked with a woman today whose baby died suddenly of unknown causes. As we worked through her grief, she talked about how numerous friends and family, even a religious leader had patted her on the back, shook their heads and said, ‘It was God’s will.’ I find few things worse to say to a grieving parent.   Saying nothing at all would be of more help.†Ã‚   It was obvious from our conversation that he had an understanding greater than I about God’s will, and his insight created in me a curiosity and desire to learn more.     Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   There is so much mystified confusion surrounding the will of God in today’s society.   It is evident in the ways that people use the term that views about it differ widely; there is even contradiction in two things the same person might say.   It is because of the recommendation of my pastor and others that I decided to read The Will of God, written by Leslie D. Weatherhead.     Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   This book was published only after it was first a series of sermons delivered in England right after World War II.   According to Weatherhead, God actually has three types of will: intentional will, circumstantial will, and ultimate will, which are all distinct from one another. Intentional will is defined as God’s will for humans from the very start on a personal level with each human being, and as a wider goal for humanity.   It is the way he would like for human life to... ...is seems to line up well with the serenity prayer: â€Å"Lord, give me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.†Ã‚   Our task as humans is to discern these wills in our lives and separate them.   We must not become embittered, but rather empowered, clinging to the knowledge that there is an ever-benevolent God constantly working for our good, and that he always has a plan for us amidst trial presented by life on earth.   In order to discern this will though, we have to be on the lookout for it with an awareness of its separateness from our own fears and desires.   This discernment is also difficult because of our limited perspectives as humans, and thus we need humility in our search.   The most important thing, however, is the search itself: we must all continue to search for the will.  Ã‚

Conclusion Gleidys Reyes ENGL 1010-307 Professor Mowry Research Essay 4/9/11 Temple Grandin Since the begging of time, the humane kinds have witnessed the existence of genius minds. Albert Einstein, Charles Darwin, Galileo Galilee and many others are all examples of geniuses that w ere born to revolutionize their area of expertise. Fortunately, in today’s days these kinds of geniuses continue to exist, and among these contemporaneous geniuses there is a pecial woman disserving mentioning. Her name is Temple Grandin, an autistic scientist, inventor and writer that was born to revolutionize the handling of livestock and the understanding of autism. Since about six month old temple grandin displayed the typical symptoms of autism: a neurological disorder that affects the brains’ normal development causing lack of language, lack of sensory/motor processing, noise sensitivity, fixation on rotating objects, and sensitivity to physical touch. Since her diagnosis temple’s mother directed all her effort to improving her daughter’s life. She took the time to search for schools where the staff was capacitated to deal with her daughter special needs; she hired a special care giver to play with temple to prevent her from immerging into the autist ic world; and she enrolled her in speech therapy. Thanks to all these efforts and to her constant dedication and tutoring, temple learned to speak and read. As temple entered puberty, she was frequently found on a state of constant panic and stress triggered by her oversensitivity to sounds, to images and to touch.Looking for some release to her symptoms, grandin parted to her aunt’s cattle ranch in Arizona. In the ranch, while looking at cows entering a squeeze chute, temple realized that cattle’s anxiety went way once they entered the chute. Intrigued by this fact, she decided to enter the chute and tried it out onto herself. While she was being hugged by the mechanical devise, she found herself on a state of relaxation she had never been before.Since she was unable to tolerate touch and having found something that attained to release her symptoms, temple immediately built her own chute, which she later called ‘the squeeze machine. ’ Temple has said that the squeeze machine gave her physical comfort and helped her to connect with her mother and to feel sympathy toward others. Today, a more advance version of the squeeze machine is used to treat autistic and developmentally disable children in many centers along the United States (Grandin, Temple). When she finished high school, Grandin entered Franklin Pierce College where she graduated with honors and earned a B. A. in psychology. Then, she enrolled at Arizona State University to continue her career as a psychologist. Nevertheless, during academic years 1970-72 she worked at different livestock facilities where she began to notice certain similarities between cows and her autistic condition: cows just like her, thought in pictures and experienced moments of intense anxiety and stress. Fascinated by this iscovery, she resolved to switch her master’s to animal science. In 1975 she finished her master’s degree, which she followed by a Ph. D. in animal science from the Un iversity of Illinois in 1989, and in 1980 she opened her own company, Grandin livestock handling system incorporated. Because during her previous jobs temple saw firsthand the methods used to kill livestock and understood cattle’s fears and anxieties at slaughterhouses, she dedicated her genius to designing what she calls â€Å"humane slaughter systems. This is temple’s term to refer to livestock handling systems that reduce livestock pain, discomforts and fears along their lives in farms and meat plants as well as during their execution in slaughter houses. One of her most significant contributions to livestock has been the curve chute she designed in 1986. The chute, among other things, prevents cattle from seeing people, shadows, trucks and other factors that scare them and increase the animals stress during their last minutes. With the curve chute, therefore, cattle remain calm and die peacefully.Since the curve chute came out, it’s advantages and benefits were recognized, and quickly became the only handling system at meat processing plants in the United States and in countries such as Canada, Mexico, England, and Australia (â€Å"Grandin, Temple†). Temple success with livestock is in part accredited to her autism, which allows her to see in pictures. â€Å"My mind Works just like Google for images. I don’t think in the abstract at all, everything in my life is organized visually† (Qtd. in Vansickle). This ability enables her to connect to farm animals and visualize major problems, which she then improves in her creations. In addition, Temple believes that because animals give humans so much they should be treated with respect up until their death. Among her most weighty achievements on this matter figure: an objective scoring system to ensure humane handling of cattle and pigs at meat processing facilities, procedures to reduce animals’ sickness and death, hundreds of articles and training videos that expl ain and demonstrate proper livestock handling, and several books on the same subject. She also developed the American Meat Instituted animal welfare auditing program, which is the first program in the United States to monitor and supervise proper slaughtering processes and the total number of incorrectly stunned animals. Although grandin’s work focuses more on livestock behavior, she is also well-known for her contributions to autism. Temple Grandin besides being the most known autistic adult in the world, is one of the most influential and respected names in her field. Time Magazine acc redited this by including her among the 100 most influential people in the world. Her work has been awarded with numerous honors such as â€Å"Who's Who of American Women in 1990, Humane Award from the American Veterinary Medical Association, and Richard L.Knowlton Innovation Award from Meat Marketing and Technology Magazine† (Vansickle). Certainty vs. Certitude

Certainty vs. Certitude Certainty vs. Certitude Certainty vs. Certitude By Mark Nichol What’s the difference between certainty and certitude? My hunch was that they’re interchangeable, but it turns out that they have a slight but significant difference in connotation- of that I am certain. Certainty and certitude, of course, share a root word: the Latin term certus, meaning â€Å"fixed† or â€Å"settled.† Certainty originally meant â€Å"pledge† or â€Å"surety,† then developed a sense of â€Å"something that is certain,† and certitude derives from a Latin word with the same meaning. But along the way, distinct connotations have emerged, though they are not always observed: A certainty can be something known based on fact, while sometimes, a certitude is something one is convinced of on the basis of faith. (The synonym conviction more obviously refers to what one believes rather than what one knows.) This is a useful distinction, but it’s unfortunately unlikely to ever emerge as one writers use consistently. The antonyms differ in form: uncertainty, but incertitude. (Incertain and incertainty existed in Middle English but were supplanted by the un- forms.) Other words based on certus include the adjectival and adverbial forms of certainty, certain and certainly, as well as the verb certify, meaning â€Å"confirm† or â€Å"vouch for†; the noun form is certification, and something that can be confirmed or vouched for is certifiable. (In colloquial usage, one who is, in jest or derision, thought eligible to be judged insane is referred to as certifiable.) Certificated is an adjective derived from the obsolete use of certificate as a verb. The noun certificate originally meant â€Å"action of certifying† but now has a dominant sense of â€Å"a document that provides certification.† Ascertain (the prefix a, meaning â€Å"to,† followed by certain) once meant â€Å"assure† or â€Å"inform† but now means â€Å"determine.† Concert and associated words are related to certain by way of the root word, though here, -cert has the sense of â€Å"strive.† Want to improve your English in five minutes a day? News Article Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

News Article - Essay Example He did not like to sacrifice the lives of his militants. President Bashar al-Assad can preserve and foster his power all well. He does not want to lose. In spite of the UN attempts to stop 13 months bloodshed in Syria, a cruel and a stubborn leader continues his policy. This point of view is often promoted in the media. In reality, a current position of Syria presents an international hazard and the most powerful countries of the world try to cease fire in that country. There are oppressed masses of people in Syria and the international community insists on tyrannical power. The President has already sacrificed 9,000 of Syrian lives (Coughlin, 2012). Assad is concerned about preservation of his power only, because he has been kept it for the past 40 years. Assad has obtained too much rivals, which are very strong and diplomatic relationships may be a great challenge for Assad. Syria is involved in the complex relationships with Iran and at this point it is appropriate for Assad to adopt a bold strategy of Alexander the Great, when he implemented the ideas of his rivals. Regime in Damascus is an intimidating factor for the international community. Therefore, Assad has global intentions and tries to implement his policy in order to extend the limits of his country. A global way of thinking was relevant to Alexander the Great too. Both of these leaders implemented their military plans as soon as possible. THE GENERAL ELECTRIC AND THE HEWLETT PACKARD (HP) Essay

THE GENERAL ELECTRIC AND THE HEWLETT PACKARD (HP) - Essay Example The competitive advantage refers to an advantage gained over competitors either by providing greater value to consumers, by lowering the prices, or by offering more benefits and service which justifies the higher price. Corporate strategies are the central point of achieving the competitive advantage by making assumptions on an organization’s external environment and its resources, and by creating policies on how the organization should operate. General Electric and Hewlett Packard are the two most influential companies in the technology market. A comparative study of the strategies used by GE and HP reveals that both have formulated analogous strategies in the various aspects of their business operation. ----------------- Introduction The Hewlett-Packard Company, commonly known as the HP, is a well established and very large global firm founded in 1939 by Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard and headquartered in California, United States. Their products focus mainly on technology li ke computer, printing, digital imaging, and also software services. General Electric (GE) is the producer of diversified technology, media, and services, and was incorporated in 1892. It offers products and services ranging from aircrafts engines, power generation, technology in medical imaging, business and consumer financing, and many more over 100 countries. The GE has a long history of success in their technological trade and their achievements prove the value of their view, â€Å"why predict the future when you can create it?† (Our history). The Economical Environment The economical environment of the business consists of four elements, they are Political, Economic, Social, and technological. The economic environment today is moving through vibrant and unstable phases due to globalization and increasingly competitive markets. However, the Hewlett Packard Company takes advantage of exploiting new markets all around the world, engaging with other multinational corporations . A big advantage to the company is their product diversity which helps them to survive the recession. At the same time, the GE is faced with many social issues regarding environmental pollutions. It has become a topic for controversies with regards to the immense ownership and control over the media sources. The company has been alleged for spending millions of dollars on commercial ads and television program sponsorships to ensure its environmental friendly image. The General Electric Company performs its functions in micro and macro environment. The micro-environment consists with customers, suppliers, and other stakeholders of the business. The GE treats its customers as an integral part of the company in the successful running of the business. The GE has taken higher efforts to integrate the company’s view with the customers’ view rather than considering them as mere investors. As customer service has been considered as the vital part of the performance, it mainta ins three crucial components regarding the quality offered to customers; the employees, the process, and the customers themselves. On the other hand, the organizational culture of HP is built up progressively over a time, which helps the employees to define how they feel about their job. The HP has succeeded in creating a positive influence of the culture on their employees. A positive culture helps to stimulate commitment towards the job and to achieve the proposed goals. Decision Making The General Electric Company employs some basic strategies in their decision making. One among them is to invest and tap the internal market within the reach of the company. This strategy seems to have utilized the principle that ‘a business must be employee-oriented if it wishes to be customer-oriented’
